Cristina De La Garza
Cristina was born in Austin, TX and lived there for the majority of her life. Cristina left high school 2 years early to begin college courses at a residential state program at the University of North Texas (UNT) called the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science. This is where she was first introduced to pool. There were pool tables in the dorms and the students would often play in their free time. Cristina quickly found that she had a natural skill for the game and began competing in local events. She joined the college billiard club where she competed against other universities in the state. After college, she moved back to Austin, TX where she was introduced to the American Poolplayers Association (APA). After playing for several years and competing on the regional and national levels with the APA, she became interested in qualifying for professional events.
At this time Cristina began taking regular lessons from Master BCA Instructor, Rod Gustafson. This helped to elevate her game quickly and a short time later she qualified for her first WPBA event in 2008. At this point Cristina had several local and regional titles under her belt and in 2009 she became the BCA National 8-Ball Champion in a field of over 400 women. In 2009, Cristina earned her WPBA tour card and began playing in professional events around the world, including invitations to represent the U.S. in the world championships.
In addition to her career as a player, Cristina is a high profile reporter in the industry. She worked with InsidePool Magazine as a reporter and on-camera interviewer for many national events and later developed into a commentator and reporter with many of the top promoters in the industry including Kozoom, Dragon Promotions and Matchroom Sports. She served on the Board of Directors for the WPBA and now provides monthly instructional articles for the APA’s monthly newsletter and quarterly magazine called the American Poolplayer.
Cristina recently moved to Switzerland with her son and his father and is looking forward to promoting the sport and Tiger in her new continent.
